First Communion is a momentous occasion in Catholic families. It is often celebrated with a gathering of friends and family after the church service. Many times favors are given to the guests as a way of thanking them for joining the family on this special day. Fans - There are many retailers that sell either folding fans or paperboard fans that they will personalize. Having a fan with your child's name and First Communion date on it makes for a nice keepsake. If the church is warm, people will appreciate having something to fan themselves with.

Bubbles - Small bottles of bubbles are easy to find at party supply stores and online. You can often have them personalized with your child's name, the date of the First Communion and often a small picture or symbol. Bubble make good Communion favors when there are going to be young children attending, children love getting bubbles.

Candies - It is easy to get chocolates or packaged candy with your child's name and the First Communion date printed on the packaging. Consider the weather when planning on buying candy as Communion favors - if it is too warm, chocolate will melt and can make a big mess. Mints are a popular choice, a lot of party supply stores sell individually wrapped mints with religious insignia printed on the wrappers.

Votive Candles - Votive candles are small candles that are about and inch in diameter and an inch and a half to two inches tall. They are available both scented and fragrance free. It is possible to get personalized votive candles with a label on them imprinted with your child's name, First Communion date, and a small picture or graphic.

Bracelets - A growing fad is to wear brightly colored rubber bracelets. There are many online retailers and party supply stores that carry these rubber bracelets with religious symbols and phrases on them. They can make good Communion favors when there are going to be a lot of children attending.

Programs - A program printed up of the day's events with sayings and pictures can make a very nice keepsake that people will hold onto. Using nice paper and a decorative font can change the program from a useful piece of paper to charming way to remember the special day.

The types of favors you choose should be based largely on who will be attending the First Communion and celebration afterward. If there are a lot of children that are going to attend, consider child-friendly favors like bubbles. If it is going to be mostly adults, consider something they can save as a keepsake like a program or fan.
